We’re building a ground breaking advertising technology. The goal of our marketing intelligence technology is to achieve the world-best results for cross media campaigns of digital commerce companies, based on big data.

While, we’re a growing communication and media agency but we’re still an early stage marketing technology company – so our Head of Advertising Technology will have an exceptional level of input into the further development of our company. About DCMN

We are an independent and owner-managed communication and media agency, founded in 2010 and based in the creative heart of Berlin. As a strong performance oriented and really fast growing agency we work with an awesome team of 16 young and highly motivated employees. For digital commerce clients we realize integrated cross media campaigns across the main channels TV, online, and mobile. A strong data-driven approach is our primary philosophy to achieve fantastic campaign results.

Position

As our future Head of Advertising Technology you will fully own the technology and development methodology of the company and will report directly to the CEO. In this role, you will be part of a fast growing, cohesive company with many exciting responsibilities, including:

  • Design creative technical solutions to catapult the results of cross media marketing campaigns to a new dimension, based on ‘big data’.
  • Use ‘big data’ to create seemingly simplistic moments of ‘magic’ to our customers.
  • Develop scalable, robust systems that will be highly adaptable to the individual needs (KPIs) of our customers.
  • Effectively communicate and evangelize technical solutions and strategies to both internal teams and external stakeholders like e.g. our (potential) customers.
  • Active coding by yourself (in the short- to mid-term this will be necessary).
  • Recruit and manage a team of excellent engineers.
  • Take code ownership and ensure a clean and manageable code base.
  • Define and implement rapid development and QA processes.

Qualification

Generally love data! We are looking for a 120% passionated, detail-oriented, energetic individual with excellent analytical skills who is not afraid to think outside the box and challenge assumptions. We have six very special criterias that we’re looking for:

  1. Digital commerce and/or agency experience – We need somebody who understands how our customers think about marketing and on the other side we are looking for someone who understand the development lifecycle and engineering processes in the context of an agency setup, so you’ll need to have worked at a reputable digital agency and/or in a digital commerce company before.
  2. Intelligence – We need someone smart. Can you confidently present yourself as the smartest person in the room, and back it up with your deep technical knowledge, reasoning and understanding?
  3. Technical background – Have you ever worked as a developer?  You must be a technical person that understands software and computer science, who in the future is able to lead the engineering team by example and from the front; no pure management background!
  4. Some management experience – You must have led an engineering team before.  It doesn’t matter to us whether that team was two people, three people or thirty – it matters that you understand how to motivate people, get them following good industry standard engineering process, and produce good quality code.
  5. Charismatic and fun personality, with loads of enthusiasm – We’re a fun company working in a fun and exciting space, so you need to be a person that’s representative of our brand and can get our team and clients excited about our services and products.
  6. Ambitious, gets stuff done, not afraid to get hands dirty personality – At the end of the day, we’re a startup, and you should only apply if you want to build your career with your own hands, not if you want a standard 9-5 job with strict boundaries and clearly defined roles/responsibilities/hours. A startup is very rewarding, but you need to make it happen yourself!

Other relevant nice to haves:

  • Strong business development experience
  • Agile project management skills (e.g. scrum, kanban)
  • Experience with data mining and maintaining large data sets
  • Strong algorithms and data structures knowledge
  • Experience with frameworks/systems for storing and accessing large amounts of data
  • Experience with cloud based platforms like Amazon Web Services, Azure, Rackspace Cloud, or Google’s App Engine
  • Experience with advertising technology (bid management systems, DSPs, DMPs, etc.)
